Sunshine Palmetto is a small independent publishing company that was founded with the mission of helping writers who dream of one day holding their own books, become authors. We are passionate about making your dreams of being an author come true!
After spending hundreds of hours navigating the world of publishing, Author/Publisher Laura Fackler wanted to ease the process for other budding authors. Sunshine Palmetto can assist you from start to finish, whether you have several unpublished manuscripts or are excited to start writing.

About Us
Laura earned her master’s in education while teaching preschool, is a former youth director, and is currently teaching elementary science and is the dean of students at a school she loves. She enjoys learning, reading, and being active, especially at the beach or while traveling. Laura lives in Jacksonville, Florida with her two daughters, the real Bun Bun, and feline brothers Shepherd and Greyson.
Laura works with an incredible team of talented copy editors and artists to ensure your vision is clear.
Our Services
Guidance
We look at where you are in the process and discuss your viable options. You meet with Laura as a consultant when you want assistance, and you do the legwork yourself.
With the Guidance option, an hourly consulting fee of $65 applies.
Supervision
After determining where you are in the process, you ask me to proceed in the direction of your choosing on your behalf. I check in with you every step of the way and you make all decisions.
With the Supervision option, cost of services plus 15% are charged.
Guardianship
After we meet, you decide that you would like me to take the helm, while you retain full decision making over all aspects of the publishing process. We meet regularly instead of constant check-ins.
When you choose the Guardianship option, cost of services plus 15% are charged, in addition to an hourly consulting fee of $65 for check-ins.
Full Customization
None of the above speaks to you, or you like parts of different options? We work together to find what best works for you on your voyage.
Full Customization fees will be determined by the options you select.
In considering which option is best for you, I encourage you to spend time thinking about why you want to publish your manuscript. Is writing a book a lifelong dream that you wish to share with family and friends? Is your story one that holds special significance for your geographic location or area? Are you looking for a paperback version, or multiple versions including hardback and ebooks? Do you want your book distribution to encompass the globe? Deciding what you are looking for when publishing your book will help you navigate the path ahead.
I encourage you to do loads of research as there are many, many ways to publish a book, from traditional publishing houses all the way to self-publishing (avoid any company that requires you to pay upfront but sign over your book rights and royalties). I believe there should be an easier way. A way that gives you the benefits of self publishing (full creative control, ALL rights to your book, better royalty rates and ALL profits, no contract to sign), that doesn’t have all of the negatives to self publishing (no editorial team, you are in charge of all marketing, a lot of work, less time to write). There are drawbacks to this approach, as even with the higher royalty rates, the royalties per book will likely not be enough to make back your initial investment unless you sell a ton of books which is consistent with self-publishing. You will also need to pay for services up front. One of the positives of this approach is the ability to utilize some types of assistance without needing to use all of our services. Maybe you are really struggling with getting the right cover for your book and need some support. You can get help with that and do everything else yourself. Another plus is that you determine the timeline, meaning that you can work on small parts over time and spread the cost out in a manageable way. If I feel you have a better chance of self publishing or with a traditional publisher, I will be upfront with you and provide you with resources to help you find the right fit.
